∴ How 2020 will change the way we travel ∴
As we enter a new decade, we look back at how travel and the way we live ‘on the road’ has changed in the last 10 years and where it’s going in a new decade and beyond.
Travelling has a huge impact on the world, good and bad. We all can agree that regular travels and discovering new places are crucial to our wellbeing and protection of the environment of the places we visit.
The new decade makes us pause and reflect. We have gone from convenient travelling to conscious one, where having deep meaningful journeys is often at the top of our ‘bucket’ list.
With being used to fast changing world, technology, and the way we live, we often long for slowing down, a quiet reflection, especially when travelling into unknown lands. We’re no longer making endless bucket lists of places but searching special destinations where we can find ourselves, slow down and find deeper experiences.
It almost feels like we have gone from being isolated on our travels and not making any significant memories or contributions, to a conscious exploring with immersive experiences as a priority.
In the new decade, we slowly start to shift the tide towards local, experiential travel where we can celebrate human and cultural diversity around the world.
The ideas of travelling to remote, off the beaten path places are also growing more. The inevitable shift in what social media are being used for has changed the way we travel. We build more online communities and groups to connect with travellers worldwide. We long for connection with likeminded travellers, share stories and experiences.
We’re starting a new decade of travel with a reflection on what makes our journeys not only important to our own personal needs but also a way for making the world a more connected, tolerant and peaceful place.
During current challenging times, we are being forced to look inwards. We should all take the time to consider how we can continue to explore the world with greater consciousness and awareness of the impact that we have on places we visit.
The urge to consider the environment when travelling is growing more, ideas of how we can and should protect and preserve the natural world have become an essential part of planning our travels in the new decade.
We are moving from over-tourism to sustainability.
Travel is the key to understanding others, learning from others and learning about yourself. The new decade shift makes us connect not only with each other but with new cultures. We are moving from over tourism to sustainability and personal fulfillment.
Transformational travel and immersive experiences become more and more important for us when travelling the world. We’re more likely to explore rich local cultures and remind ourselves about the responsibility we have to respect and learn about local traditions and customs when we visit a place.
Here at The Alternative Morocco different cultures have always been an inspiration for us. We strongly believe in the power of travel to change the world. Over the past years of travelling extensively, we came to the realisation that it is people we meet on our journeys that make travel a special experience.
Meeting new cultures requires time and patience to understand. The journeys we took over the last years were very carefully planned. We realize that travel and tourism is a vital income generator for local communities across the world. In many countries it improves the quality of life for their people, providing livelihoods, education and better healthcare.
Our travelling goal for the new decade is to create more time efficient trips and get to the very beating heart of every destination we visit. To explore each place with even more kindness and respect. Each of our journeys works towards a more circular economy and directly supports local communities. We aim to create jobs and improve the welfare of local people and the environment. We support places that are run by local families and friends, support the small businesses that have helped so many of us create unique lifetime memories.
We believe that travel and tourism can be a source of pride for local communities, allowing them to look deeper at their history, culture, heritage, and develop their own community identity.
The new decade of travel creates awareness and reminds us of what a beautiful place the world is. Coming out of our comfort zones, discovering and embracing the unknown is a crucial part of connecting with other cultures.
We hope that the new decade and current challenging times will make us view the world from new angles and with new eyes. We believe that the need for slow travel and deeply meaningful experiences will overtake our old habits of just seeing places for the sake of it or a pretty picture.
We hope that the current situation and the new decade makes you want to explore the world even more, more consciously and let you truly discover unique people and their precious cultures.
Let’s create a world of authentic experiences, where planning less but more consciously becomes a norm. Let’s keep on dreaming and planning our future travels with deep, respectful cultural exchanges.
We can’t wait to welcome you to Morocco and share enriching cultural experiences.
What’s waiting for us beyond our front door is a great adventure and a story to be told. Let’s start a new decade with a positive shift, a change of perspective and endless dreams of travels far and wide.
